Uno de los más grandes éxitos de los Doors fue escrito por el guitarrista Robby, quien reconoció haber utilizado el símbolo del fuego ( había dudado entre el fuego, el agua, la tierra o el aire) inspirado por una de sus canciones favoritas de los Rolling Stones “Play with fire”. La letra de esta canción fue parcialmente censurada en la aparición de los Doors en el programa de TV Ed Sullivan Show, exactamente la palabra “higher” en la frase “Girl we couldn’t get much higher” (chica no podríamos volar más) que significaba volar en el sentido de los efectos producidos por una droga, estar “colocado”. Como ya se ha dicho Jim Morrison ignoró las recomendaciones del censor del programa y cantó en directo con la letra original provocando la ira del amigo Sullivan y su recatado equipo, con lo cual no volvió a actuar en su programa
